The Institut Pasteur Mérieux Alliance have signed a letter of intent for an alliance of long-term research. The Institut Pasteur Mérieux Alliance (which consists of companies: bioMérieux, Transgene, Shantha Biotechnics, ABL and Silliker) want to pool their resources and efforts to combat infectious diseases in large research projects, revolutionizing the following fields:
- Clinical Diagnosis and teranósticos (in partnership with bioMérieux and Transgene)
- Food safety and microbiological control, nutrition, health and environment (with bioMérieux and Silliker)
- Immunotherapy (with Transgene and Shantha Biotechnics)
Research projects should focus on account of the major diseases that call for experience in the fields of virology, bacteriology and immunology. The results of these joint research projects could be used by companies Mérieux Alliance and improve the patent portfolio of the Institut Pasteur, contributing to the enhancement of their research efforts.

Royal Cosun and Avantium have announced the start of their collaboration. Companies join forces to develop a specific process for the production of a new generation of bioplastics and biofuels from certain organic waste streams. Avantium will develop these bioplastics and biofuels in the name of 'Furanics.
Within the collaboration, Cosun will focus on the selection, isolation and purification of suitable components from agricultural waste streams. Avantium will continue to focus on developing a production process and efficient chemical catalyst. The duration of the first phase of collaboration will be approximately two years. With positive results, the companies intend to scale production technology and deploy a commercial scale.

Roche Molecular Diagnostics has announced that it has received the certificate of CE mark for its new test COBAS (R) AmpliPrep / COBAS (R) TaqMan (R) HBV v2.0, allowing their sale for clinical use within of the European Union. This test is highly sensitive to Roche PCR technology offers automated real-time to achieve wide dynamic range within
delADN delvirus the quantitative detection of hepatitis B (HBV) in serum and plasma of patients.
"It is vital to control the levels of hepatitis B as an indicator of when therapy should begin the hepatitis B virus, and determining the response to treatment," said Teresa Wright, a doctor of medicine and head of Roche Molecular Diagnostics. "This test enables physicians to optimize treatment for patients with the assessments of viral load, allowing laboratories testing efficiency through enhanced automation.
