The president of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Rafael Rodrigo, the president of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, Vladislav Pachenko, gathered at the campus of the CSIC in Madrid to finalize the extension of a collaboration agreement to develop projects and research programs. Both institutions have financed 10 projects and joint research on various topics such as new technological developments, virus infections in plants, developing
new cements and migration between Spain and Russia.
During the meeting, which has also been assisted by the Vice President of International Relations, CSIC, José Juan Sánchez Serrano, and deputy chairman of the Russian Foundation, Alexey Zheltitikov, both institutions have analyzed the possibility of collaborating in other projects and research.
It is well known that neutral or weakly acid solutions of alkali chlorates show no appreciable oxidizing power. However, it has been observed by K.A. Hofmann (Ber. 45,3329, 1912; 46, 1567, 1913) that, in the presence of very minute amounts of osmium tetroxide, the oxygen becomes readily available. Chlorate solutions activated in this way will, for example, oxidize hydrazine to free nitrogen, potassium iodide to iodine, and arsenic to arsenious acid.
Hoffman found that, in the oxidation of hydrazine sulfate, nitrogen is liberated quantitatively according to the equation [...].
The investigation of the mechanism of this reaction has been taken as the subject of this thesis.
Merquinsa has announced that it has received the "2008 Global Thermoplastic Urethane (TPU) Product Innovation Green Excellence of the Year" by Frost & Sullivan.
This award is a recognition of innovation in Merquinsa thanks to its novel biopolymers BIO TPU derived from renewable resources, and marketed under the brand Pearlthane and Pearlbond ® ECO ® for a wide range of "green" in the electronics sector, sports, automotive, footwear, and adhesive applications, among others.
