• User Training – Improved user education through easy access to training material
HYSYS Upstream
Fluid Characterization Capabilities
HYSYS Upstream provides industry standard methods and techniques for handling petroleum fluids and brings together the disciplines of petroleum and process engineering. Production field data can be entered to create an asset-wide model from the reservoir to the back-end of the facility.

Black Oil Thermodynamics & Methods – Black oil
methodology is a non-compositional model, commonly used in the Upstream industry for modeling petroleum fluids. At the wellhead, the full compositional breakdown of a fluid is not known, but phase-specific
flows and density data are readily available. Thus a limited set of data, including pressure, temperature, oil specific gravity, gas specific gravity, GOR and water cut is all that is required to model the behavior of the oil.
• A black oil thermodynamic package from Neotechnology Consultants provided in the COMThermo® framework
• Based on industry standard black oil methods and correlations for calculating solution GOR, formation volume factors and viscosities Black Oil Flowsheeting – HYSYS unit operations typically solve to equilibrium conditions using a equation-of-state or activity model. With HYSYS
Upstream, HYSYS unit operations will also solve in black oil mode and be able to blend different black oils together.
• Supported operations include valve, separator, mixer, tee, compressor, expander, heater, cooler, heat exchanger
• Blending – Black oil blending methodology for mixing multiple black oil streams

Black Oil Translation – Downstream of the well and flowlines, it becomes increasingly necessary to use a compositional model and equation-of-state to accurately model the behavior of a petroleum fluid. HYSYS Upstream translates from black oil to a compositional model using the gas composition and HYSYS oil characterization.
PVT – Fluid characterization data from InfoChem's Multiflash can be used to create a thermodynamic package accessible in HYSYS via COMThermo™.
Component Lumping / Delumping – When moving between flowlines and facilities, the number of pseudo components needed to accurately model an oil stream changes. HYSYS Upstream
manages this within the flowsheet using the following operations.
• Lumper – Converts a large number of pure and pseudocomponents
to a smaller reduced slate of components required by other applications or to improve performance
• DeLumper – Converts a small set of lumped components back to a complete list of components when the extra fidelity is required
Hydraulics Capabilities
HYSYS 3.2 combines new hydraulics capabilities and consolidates Upstream well and flowline technology in the process modeling environment. This enabling technology offers the ability to create a complete model of an oil & gas asset which can be used to optimally design new assets or trouble-shoot and improve existing assets, resulting in improved engineering, operations and business decisions throughout the asset lifecycle. These capabilities include:
ProFES Interface – robust interface from ProFES 2P Tran / ProFES 3P Tran to HYSYS Dynamics™, allowing multiphase flow
networks in the dynamic facility simulation.
PIPESIM 2003 Integration – integration with Schlumberger's industry leading Petroleum engineering tool, PIPESIM 2003.
The PIPESIM 2003 Suite is available separately through Schlumberger.
HYSYS PIPESIM Interfaceâ„¢
• Integrate a single branch well and flowline model into a HYSYS simulation HYSYS PIPESIM-Net Interface™
• Integrate a complete network of wells and flowlines to a HYSYS simulation
Hydraulic Interfaces
Common Data Model – A common data model and framework for
incorporating third-party well and flowline hydraulic models
for both steady-state and dynamics. The initial implementation
of this framework will integrate the PIPESIM 2003 products,

ProFES and OLGA.
