The state oil company Petrobras has confirmed the existence of a huge oil field with between 5 000 and 8 000 million barrels of oil and natural gas in a geological horizon in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean.

Brazil is in front of the discovery of more oil province, equivalent to the most important in the world. Petrobras has disclosed information about a new area which extends along the basins of Espírito Santo, Campos and Santos and is located at great depths and in so-called pre-salt rocks. The volume discovered only in the area of the accumulation of Tupi (which represents a small part of the new area), may extend more than 50% of current oil and gas reserves in the country, now totaling 14 billion barrels .

The new oil province is located in a new exploration area, which has reached the first pre-salt layer. To date, Petrobras is the only company able to operate with or without strategic partners, which has drilled, tested and evaluated the rocks of the section pre salt.

Petrobras has analyzed and tested an area known as Tupi. The analysis of the formation of the second test well in block BM-S-11 (Santos Basin) to estimate the volume of recoverable light oil (28 º API) is the order of 5 to 8 billion barrels of oil and natural gas. Petrobras has been operating in operating condition in the area and has 65% of shares, the British company BG is 25% and the Portuguese Petrogal - Galp Energia, 10%.

In the last two years are invested nearly 1 billion dollars and have drilled 15 wells that reached the pre-salt layers - eight of them were tested and evaluated in accordance with the best techniques of the petroleum industry. These wells produce light oil with high commercial value (28th API) and a large amount of associated natural gas.

To reach the pre-salt layers, which are located between 5,000 and 7,000 meters deep, Petrobras developed new drilling projects will be crossed more than 2000 meters of salt. The drilling of first well took more than a year at a cost of $ 240 million. Currently, Petrobras achieved equivalent drill a well 60 days at a cost of $ 60 million.

The data obtained by these wells, integrated with a great effort of developing a map of the area, have allowed to define high level of safety that the rocks of the pre-salt section extending from the state of Espírito Santo to the state of Santa Catarina, 800 km long and 200 km wide, sheet of water 2 to 3 thousand meters deep.
The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuel has already granted to various oil companies about 25% of the area where the rocks are located in the pre-salt layer in the form of blocks for exploration and production concessions.

The results of the analysis and interpretation of production data that were obtained in the eight wells tested, with high productivity, allowing to ensure that Brazil is ahead of the discovery of the largest petroleum province in the country, equivalent to the most important areas oil on the planet.

Petrobras has discovered 25 million barrels of oil

Since its creation, Petrobras in Brazil has discovered 25 billion barrels of crude oil and natural gas, of which there have been 11 billion barrels.
