Inc.ha Mylan announced that Matrix Laboratories Limited, its subsidiary based in India lacual of a 71.2% controlling interest, has been selected by the Initiative for the Clinton HIV / AIDS (CHAI, for their Acronyms in English) on their projects as the main supplier of UNITAID five antiretroviral (ARV) regimens used in second-line treatment against HIV / AIDS. Matrix has also been selected as main supplier of seven pediatric antiretroviral treatment.

According to the Joint United Nations Program on AIDS (UNAIDS), about 33 million people worldwide are infected with HIV and over 90% of these patients live in developing countries. Less than 4 million patients worldwide are currently receiving treatment, but approximately 30% of patients in developing countries depend on antiretroviral Matrix.
Products for treatment of second line of the projects selected for Matrix UNITAID, CHAI 2009 include drugs thermostable Lopinavir / Ritonavir, Tenofovir and two fixed dose combinations using Tenofovir. The seven ARV for which Matrix has been selected under the Project include seven Pediatric UNITAID fixed dose combinations of first line. Patients often use second-line therapies when resistance to treatment initially prescribed or experienced clinical failure. The combinations are many fixed-dose combination antiretroviral drugs in one pill.
