Nerviano Medical Sciences (NMS) has obtained approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for first clinical trials of a new antitumor agent. The drug blocks Cdc7, a protein that is responsible for the uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells. Preclinical data recently published in Nature Chemical Biology, show that the inhibition of Cdc7 induces cell death and blocked tumor growth of several types of cancer in experimental animal models.
