The president of the Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC), Rafael Rodrigo, the president of the Russian Foundation for Basic Research, Vladislav Pachenko, gathered at the campus of the CSIC in Madrid to finalize the extension of a collaboration agreement to develop projects and research programs. Both institutions have financed 10 projects and joint research on various topics such as new technological developments, virus infections in plants, developing
new cements and migration between Spain and Russia.
During the meeting, which has also been assisted by the Vice President of International Relations, CSIC, José Juan Sánchez Serrano, and deputy chairman of the Russian Foundation, Alexey Zheltitikov, both institutions have analyzed the possibility of collaborating in other projects and research.
Rodrigo detailing the importance of the meeting: "With this collaboration, researchers from both organizations can continue making or joint research projects. The CSIC seeks to facilitate the work and collaboration with groups of researchers from any institution or research center of the world . In this case, the interest awakened by the first call for projects has prompted us to extend cooperation between the two institutions, which will be formalized shortly with a new call for projects. "
Projects may focus on topics such as biology and medicine, telecommunications and information, physics and astronomy, chemistry, humanities and social sciences, mathematics, engineering and computer science, engineering and earth sciences.
The joint work of both institutions began in 2007, according to the agreement, both joint projects funded every two years so that researchers from these countries to collaborate in joint work. In the first call in 2008 will finance 10 projects in two years for an amount of 250,000 euros. The next call for these institutions will be in March 2010.
