Amira Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced AM211, the candidate of internally discovered oral drug for the treatment of Amira and control of inflammatory and allergic diseases related to the route of arachidonic acid, is in the process of submitting an IND to the Food and Drug Administration U.S. (FDA) by mid-2009 after the successful completion of toxicity studies of Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).
AM211 is an oral selective receptor antagonist DP2 (also known as CRTH2 receptor quimioatrayente or homologous molecule expressed on Th2 lymphocytes). DP2 is a high affinity receptor for prostaglandin (PG) D2 and, in humans, is involved in Th2-dependent allergic inflammation. Recent studies have shown that an antagonist DP2 has the potential to become an oral treatment for asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and allergic rhinitis.
