More sophisticated microfluidic chip.

According to an article in Physics Today a team of researchers from Stanford University, UCLA and other 9 universities, laboratories and medical schools have collaborated in the creation of a microfluidic chip that demonstrates the possibility of a multistep organic synthesis on a single chip microfluidics.

The device produces 2-deoxy-2-[18F] fluoro-D-glucose (FDG), a radiopharmaceutical tracer used in positron emission tomography.

The microchip is considered the most sophisticated set so far, is capable of performing operations:

concentration
isolation
mixed
heating
evaporation

It has micro valves and micro pumps, and it is easy to fabricate a new chip can be designed and constructed in one day to the next. This technology is very promising because it will allow complex synthesis easier, faster and using less amount of reagents.
