The water that exists in the world is not a single type can be classified according to its composition containing mineral salts and are present in a given amount of liquid. These may be soft water, hard, alkaline and neutral that not only may differ in the amount of minerals they contain but also the type of minerals.

However, there is another classification of water, taking into account the origin of certain fluids such as salt water and wastewater among others.
