Classification of wastewater

If we want to make evaluative analysis on different kinds of waste water treatment, is critical to bear in mind and learn about different types of wastewater that exist. Also, it is necessary to have information about contaminants, such as what these pollutants, which are common, what negative consequences can generate discharges, how to perform quality checks, etc..

Let's start by listing the major types of wastewater. The classification is made regarding the origin of water, because it is what determines the composition of the substance.

Urban Wastewater:
Urban wastewater is called, all discharges that occur within the urbanized cores as a direct result of the activities of the inhabitants of these towns.

These discharges generate the following contributions:
• Raw sewage or fecal
• Water from the domestic washing
• Waters stuff out of the drainage system of streets and avenues
• Water from rain and leachate

Wastewater from the cities, are relatively uniform in its composition and its pollution load, because their contributions are generally always the same. However, this homogeneity has margins that are very broad, this is because the characteristics of each landfill will depend on the characteristics of the population center in which they formed. Parameters like the number of people or density within the core industries are of great influence.

Industrial Wastewater:
Are those that come from business activities or whose production processes, manufacturing or handling processes, use is made of water. They are extremely variable in its volume and its composition. Generally, different characteristics of discharges, not only an industrial item to another but also within the same sector industries.

It often happens that industries emit no discharges continuously, doing so only at certain times of day or only in specific seasons. This also depends on the processes of production and total manufacturingprocess.

Furthermore, the differences are quite common and cargo flow during the day. The waters are more contaminated industrial urban wastewater. Contamination, is often quite difficult to remove.

Due to its high concentration and its variability, industrial wastewater require more complex treatment.
