There is increasing evidence that our planet is immersed in an unstoppable process of climate change is affecting the evolution of plant and animal species. Scientists are aware of this issue for which there is increasing efforts being made to study laboratory-scale climatic influence, not only in plant species, but also in small animals (amphibians, insects, pollinators, viruses and bacteria, etc..) but also in higher animals and even humans.

Biomedical engineering or bioengineering, is the discipline that applies the principles of electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic, chemical, etc. engineering, to understand, modify, identify, or control biological systems and to design and build equipment capable of monitoring physiological functions of individuals and assist in the diagnosis and treatment of patients, not to mention the study of neurotransmitters under various climatic stimuli and testing the behavior of animals and plants when subjected to specific environmental conditions.

The number of Spanish groups that conduct research in this field increases continuously.

Currently the Thematic Network on Biomedical Engineering, funded by the Ministry of Science and Innovation, brings together more than 50 research groups multisectoral.

JRC has been developing since 1967 bioclimatic test chambers and simulation environment for research in animal behavior and plant under adverse conditions, as well as for testing of components and automation systems in bioengineering research.

In this regard, it is noteworthy that ITC has provided this type of bioclimatic chambers such prestigious entities as the Higher Sports Council, INDRA, Ministry of Education and Science, National Research Council and various technology centers.
