The oxicombustión is a promising solution to reduce CO2 emissions from heavy industrial activities such as coal-fired power plants, blast furnaces or cement kilns. Using oxygen instead of air for combustion of coal or other fuels, produces CO emissions containing relatively pure, ready to be captured, stored or used directly, for example 2 for EOR.

In this context, Air Liquide has just signed a contract in Queensland, Australia, comprising a gas separation unit of the Air (ASU) with a production capacity of 660 tons of oxygen per day and a purification unit Cryogenic CO. This contract is part of a technology partnership with the Australian group Callide Oxyfuel Services, a provider of electricity. 2.

This project provides for the transformation of a power plant of a nominal capacity of 100 megawatts in order to test the technologies in the chain of collection and storage of CO. The design and construction of the purification unit Cryogenic CO are planned for 2009-2010 and the launch will take place in early 2011. In this technology partnership, Air Liquide will make a series of tests in real conditions of the pilot unit of cryogenic CO purification. This unit represents the latest stage of validation prior to large-scale commercialization of this technology and has no equivalent in the world.

Air Liquide has developed a wide expertise in the domain of oxicombustión to meet energy and environmental challenges. The technology partnership is part of Callide on from several research projects on a large scale and is part of Air Liquide's strategy towards the industrialization of oxicombustión.
